Dr. Munif Hussain, DO, MS, CAQSM, provides non-surgical sports injury care for adults and children on Long Island at South Island Orthopedics. As an innovative member of the Non-Operative Orthopedics & Sports Medicine division, Dr. Hussain offers advanced treatment options for sports injuries and musculoskeletal conditions without surgery, helping patients return to activity safely and confidently.
Dr. Hussain is multilingual in Bengali, English, and Spanish and holds advanced certifications in musculoskeletal ultrasound-guided injections and orthobiologic treatments. Outside of work, he enjoys family time, travel for team sports, and playing bass and electric guitar.

Dr. Hussain has extensive experience treating sports injuries, trauma and fracture care, concussions, arthritis, and overuse conditions. He provides care for patients of all ages and athletic abilities, including professional wrestlers, MMA fighters, elite runners, recreational athletes, and individuals with non-sports-related orthopedic concerns.
He specializes in minimally invasive, non-surgical orthopedic treatments for the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, thigh, knee, foot, ankle, upper, and lower back. His practice uses ultrasound-guided injections and regenerative treatments such as PRP, prolotherapy, stem cell derivatives, hyaluronic acid, and corticosteroids, aiming to exhaust evidence-based options before surgery is considered.
Dedicated to Sports Medicine and Community Care
Dr. Hussain remains active as a thought leader in physical medicine and sports injury care, staying connected with athletes at all stages of their careers. He has served as a team physician for high school and collegiate sports, professional dancers, and combat sports athletes, including serving as a Ringside Physician for boxing, wrestling, MMA, and kickboxing events.
Additionally, he has been a medical captain for NYC Marathons and other endurance events, providing medical coverage for IRONMAN®, Tough Mudder®, Muay Thai, and UFC Fight Nights®.
Academic and Clinical Leadership in Non-Surgical Sports Injury Care
Dr. Hussain completed his Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at Northwell Health – North Shore University Hospital and his Family Medicine Residency at NYU Langone Hospital – Brooklyn. He is board-certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians in Family Medicine and Sports Medicine.
As a committed educator, Dr. Hussain has taught musculoskeletal ultrasound at Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine and currently serves as Core Teaching Faculty for the Northwell Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship Program. He has presented research at national conferences and published studies in The Journal of the American Osteopathic Association.
